The Big Three of Postpartum Care

The Big Three of Postpartum Care

So we are all watching the Big Three on This Is Us every Tuesday night, right?  (I promise, no spoilers in here about the AMAZING episode this week.)  And we know many other things wonderful things good comes in threes: three little pigs, three french hens, three piece suits, three Hanson Brothers, three Sanderson Sisters, and the three ingredients in a BLT.  Well, we need to add another wonderful set of three for ultimate postpartum care: a postpartum massage, Bengkung belly binding, and a postpartum doula!  We are pretty sure our Big Three would help any parent feel like royalty and ready to deal with the next marathon cluster feeding or blowout diaper.

Postpartum Massage

A postpartum massage is a wonderful way to help a new mother relax and recharge after pregnancy and childbirth.  Ideally, this massage is conducted within the first week after a vaginal birth to help relieve any tension in your body from birth, as well as getting your muscles, bones, ligaments, and organs back to their pre-pregnancy size and location.  If you had a cesarean birth, we may need to wait a bit longer to ensure your incision is completely healed and request that you obtain verbal permission from your doctor or midwife prior to the massage.  A postpartum massage also greatly helps with muscle tightness due to breastfeeding, drawing ribs and hips back together, and relaxing after the life-changing event of childbirth.

We want this massage to be completely comfortable for you, so we encourage another adult to tag along and cuddle your sweet baby in our comfy waiting room while you enjoy your much needed self-care time.  By knowing your new baby is in good hands, you can relax and know your sore muscles are also in good hands.

Bengkung Belly Binding

Belly Binding is a great way to provide the physical and emotional support you need after pregnancy.  A sheet is tightly wrapped from your hips to just below your rib cage to support your body to provide that much needed support.  Physically, the wrap will help your bones, muscle and ligaments return to their pre-pregnancy size and placement, help heal abdominal separation (diastasis recti), and reduce back pain due to breastfeeding.  Emotionally, the wraps can feel like daily dose of self-care when you are sometimes the last person you think about, and help increase your body image.  We recommend our clients wear their wraps 30-40 days for about 10 hours a day. And don’t worry, we will wrap you 1 day or 40 days, whatever you makes you feel the most comfortable!

Postpartum Doula

If angels are real, they come in the form of a postpartum doula!  Your postpartum doula will come to your home, day or night, and help you however you need.  We will help you adjust to your new life as a parent by making things easier.  We will do light housework, help with common breastfeeding issues, and most importantly, we will be there with you every step of the way during your parenting journey!  We do day hours, night hours, weekday hours, and weekend hours; basically, whenever you need us, we will be there.

Carolina Birth and Wellness is excited to provide all of the Big Three for postpartum support!
