Provider Spotlight: Amb Day Spa

Recently, we had the pleasure of visiting Annette at Amb Day Spa in Cary for a first for us: receiving a Yoni Steam! Also known as vaginal steams, we both approached the experience open minded and excited to feel some of the benefits that we had heard so much about!

Upon intake of receiving my first steam, I was instantly interested in learning more about the process! Then after putting on my handmade dress and steaming for 40 minutes, I knew that this had to be shared with our clients because of how refreshed, relaxed, and rejuvenated I felt. Luckily for me, Annette was eager to share her knowledge with all of us.

How did you first learn about Yoni Steaming?

I first heard about the Yoni Steam from a dear friend of mine, who lived in California. She would ask me on many occasions to offer Yoni Steaming as a spa services.  Each time she would asked, I would say no. The reason for me saying no all of those times was because of fear. Fear of what others would think, fear of losing clients since I already had an established business. She would ask me many times over the months, and I continued to say no, until one day I had the opportunity to try it while in Chicago. Once I tried it, I said yes!  I will offer Yoni Steaming at the spa!  We launched the Yoni Steaming practice November 1, 2015.

During my intake for my first steam, I loved hearing about the origins of the word Yoni vs Vagina. Can you explain it one more time?

Sure.  The word Yoni is another word for Vagina.  It is a Sanskrit word meaning: divine sacred passage.   The word Vagina is Latin and the original meaning of the word Vagina was a shealth, which is what a sword goes into.

What are some of the benefits of Yoni Steaming, specifically for fertility work and during the postpartum period?

There are many reasons for fertility challenges. One of those reasons is a buildup of old material in and on the uterine walls. When breaking down this excess material and releasing it through menstruation, the uterine wall is better prepared for the fertilized egg to attach and thrive.

Yoni steaming is known for increasing the chances of fertility. Although, there have not been any scientific research done on Yoni Steaming,  many women once struggling with infertility have reported conception after only having yoni steam treatments, or combining it with other modalities to increases fertility even more.

As for postpartum, the steam assist in the strengthening, healing, cleansing and toning of the reproductive system after birth.  This ancient remedy is known to clear any remaining material from the uterus after birth, assist with the repair of a vaginal tear, episiotomy, or C-section scar, and encourage the tissue to tighten.

The benefits of Yoni Steaming include:

  • The gentle heat and moisture cause physical toxins to be released from cells.

  • Bringing a profound sense of relaxation and emotional well-being.

  • Supports the uterus to shed old blood

  • Helps the uterus to expel any non-essential tissue or cells.

  • Draws out toxins and clears congestion from your womb.

  • Increases circulation and increases lubrication, which can help increase libido

  • Yoni steaming also supports women to cultivate a profound sense of self-love and increases self-confidence, especially as it relates to their yonis, the result is a healthier womb, inside and out, which increases fertility.

Are there any times when receiving a Yoni Steam is not recommended?

Yoni steaming is safe to do anytime, however it is not recommended if the client is pregnant, on her cycle, after ovulation actively trying to conceive, or has open sores or wounds.

When you aren't with clients, where can we find you?

I am usually at a coffee shop or library working on the business, or spending time out in nature going for walks or hikes.

And most importantly, what are you currently binge watching or reading?

I enjoy doing research online reading and learning more about various topics of interest.  I also, enjoy watching documentaries online.
