In-Home Newborn 101 Class

We are excited to now officially offer our in-home private newborn care class!

This class can be part our customized childbirth classes or as a standalone class, whatever fits better for you, your family, and your schedule.

Our goal of each class is to teach you how to interpret and make your own language with your newborn. They will not be able to tell you what they need for awhile, but they will give you cues that tell you. We want you to feel confident at each stage of having a newborn.

Topics covered in our in-home Newborn Care Class:

Parenthood Mantras

Being a new parent is hard, no way around that. We will take the time to talk about different mantras that you can repeat when the days and nights are long.

Normal Newborn Appearance

We go beyond the 10 fingers and 10 toes, and talk about the molding you may see with your newborns head, vernix, and more.

Newborn Behavior—Awake Time

So much focus is put on getting babies to sleep, but what do you do with a newborn when they are awake? Well, we go over all of that! And maybe even include handouts about infant massage…

Newborn Behavior—Eating

This is not a breastfeeding only class, because we strongly believe you as a parent can decide how and what you want to feed your baby. Since we are all about teaching cues, we will also teach you how to read the cues your baby is giving you to start to notice the early signs of hunger so each feeding session is a bit easier. We will also go over a proper latch, breastfeeding positions, bottle feeding tips such as paced bottle feeding, and how to properly prepare formula.

Infant Poop

Newborns poop…a lot. And we will teach you how to recognize what the color of your baby’s poop can help tell you about their development.

Bathing

With all of those diaper changes, we will also go over how to bathe your baby either with a sponge bath, sink bath, or even a family bath!

Soothing Techniques for Newborns

Our goal is that you are reading the cues well, and not getting to the stage of screaming, but sometimes that does not always happen. We will teach you common ways to soothe, both your baby and yourself.

Newborn Behavior—Sleeping and Safe Sleep Techniques

Sometimes being a parent just feels like trying to get our kids to sleep. (And from a Mom of a 4.5 year, I will admit I love bedtime!) But we will talk about different cues to make bedtime easier, as well as a how to prepare a safe sleep environment.

Swaddling

Newborns love to be swaddled as it can help them feel more secure outside of the womb. We will give you hands on time to practice swaddling.

And while this is a newborn class, we also care immensely about the mental health of the parents! So, we talk about protective factors and self care for new parents so everyone doesn’t just survive the postpartum period, but thrive!

You can register directly for the newborn class online as a standalone class or add it to your customized childbirth education

All classes are done in the comfort of your own home. Send us an email with any questions!
