Our International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) believe that the best breastfeeding support is the support that is right for you. We have clients who have varying degrees of goals relating to their breastfeeding journey or a concern that needs a but more guidance before the baby arrives. So, we offer prenatal consultations where our IBCLCs will travel to your home, and provide the support, guidance, and education that you need.

Topics Covered During Prenatal Consultation with IBCLC

A prenatal consultation is almost like your private breastfeeding class with one of our IBCLCs, where they talk specifically about your concerns and help you make a plan for anything that should be done prior to and/or after your baby arrives!

A few of the topics we can cover include:

  • General Fear/Anxiety Related To Breastfeeding: Our IBCLCs can talk to your about your fears and then how to ease those fears with proper guidance.

  • Concern Regarding Past Surgery and/or Trauma to Your Breasts: Our IBCLCs are not just experts in breastfeeding, but also breasts. So if you have had a past surgery to your breasts, it is recommended to speak with an IBCLC to see how that surgery may or may not impact breastfeeding.

  • Nipple/Breast Tissue Concerns: If you are concerned about your nipple shape (including inverted nipples) or have noticed that your breast tissue has changed or not changed, our IBCLCs can work with you to make a plan with various tools before your baby arrives.

  • Feeding Plan: Coming up with a concrete feeding plan before baby arrives isn’t always possible, but our IBCLCs can work with you to develop a tentative plan and how to notice when changes are needed.

  • Underlying Health Concerns that Impact Breastfeeding: This may include (but not limited to) autoimmune disorders, diabetes, thyroid concerns, etc. Various health concerns can impact your hormone levels and thus impact breastfeeding. Let our IBCLCs guide you in the right direction so that your health is optimal as your prepare to breastfeed.

  • Breastfeeding as a Sexual Assault Survivor: Pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding can certainly be triggering for survivors. Our IBCLCs will help ease those triggers and work with you to reach your breastfeeding goals specifically related to those who are survivors.

Plus so much more! Our goal in each and every prenatal consultation is that you feel at ease as you move into your breastfeeding journey with the help of our IBCLCs.
