Virtual Doula Support and Virtual Childbirth Classes

In our new reality of living with stay at home orders, school closures, and wearing pajamas all day, the one thing that will not change is babies. Folks will be getting pregnant, will be needing support, will be needing childbirth educator, and will be giving birth. While the current conditions may not be ideal, our goal at Carolina Birth and Wellness is to provide the level of support pregnant people and their families deserve.

Virtual Doula Support

Hospitals are adapting everyday to balancing the needs of the hospital vs the general public vs laboring individuals by changing their positions if a doula is considered a visitor that can be limited or part of the care team. While we certainly want to support our clients, and believe doulas are part of the care, we also respect the goal of protecting the public.

Because of this, we are hoping that our doulas will be able to provide in-person support, but also planning that they will not be. The changes that we are implementing for all current and future clients during this pandemic is we will had a 3rd prenatal visit to go over more in depth the labor process, specific ways your partner can help by taking on some of the roles of a doula, providing in person doula support while still at clients home if both the doula and client are comfortable with that, virtual doula support at the hospital, and an extended postpartum visit.

Virtual doula support is going to look different for each client, depending on the resources available. Ideally, we can be a on a computer or tablet set up so we cannot only support the laboring person, but also provide suggestions for the support partner and also survey the room to see if there is anything we could change if we were there in person. A big one is checking to ensure the curtain is closed to provide privacy when providers need to come in the room!

While we understand that virtual doula is not ideal, during these trying times, we are trying to provide the most support we can to our clients, while also helping to flatten the curve.

Virtual Childbirth Classes

Especially with the idea of restricting the visitor policy, many expecting parents are facing the idea that their birth team is not going to look like they originally planned. We believe the best way to overcome this is with more education.

Because of the need for childbirth birth classes, we are now offering virtual childbirth classes. And really the best part of our virtual childbirth classes is that you can customize the content to what you need. Prior to your class, we will drop off your customized book (on your porch because of social distancing), and then we will set up of virtual class. These classes are great for first time parents who want all the information, second time parents who want a virtual childbirth refresher class, or those who just want to learn comfort measures for labor.

You can customized your own childbirth class here and we will be contact you to schedule.

We are also offering a virtual infant massage classes!

We hope that you and your families are staying safe, as well as receiving the support that you need during pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period!

We are here if you have questions!
